Reviews and Ratings
The hotel was nice and clean, cozy, but a bit too warm at bedtime for my 2-night stay in August. The antique-looking hairdryer and old-style furniture gave a dated vibe, and the lack of a hook by the door to hang my coat was inconvenient.
The hotel is situated in a peaceful, secluded country setting with nice grounds, making it great for those seeking a quiet escape. The rooms in the main house are exposed to outside noise with perspex windows, but they are considered the better rooms by other travelers. The service was mixed with warm and friendly staff alongside unhelpful and aggressive behavior from some members. The location is convenient for exploring Edinburgh but may feel a bit tiring compared to the room ambiance. Dining options were varied, ranging from excellent to average. The facilities are slightly dated but provide necessary amenities for a comfortable stay.
Staying at the main hotel rather than a chalet in the garden felt like a five-star experience with lovely rooms at the rear including a gorgeous shower room. The service was very attentive and helpful during my three-night stay over New Year's, from room reservations to post-service care. The location was convenient, easily accessible from the Newcastle ferry, although having a car would be advantageous for exploring the area. The dining experience served a satisfying and reasonably priced breakfast, although some improvements could enhance the options. Overall, a luxurious and peaceful stay with great amenities and value for money.
