The hotel was nice and clean, cozy, but a bit too warm at bedtime for my 2-night stay in August. The antique-looking hairdryer and old-style furniture gave a dated vibe, and the lack of a hook by the door to hang my coat was inconvenient.

Staying at the main hotel rather than a chalet in the garden felt like a five-star experience with lovely rooms at the rear including a gorgeous shower room. The service was very attentive and helpful during my three-night stay over New Year's, from room reservations to post-service care. The location was convenient, easily accessible from the Newcastle ferry, although having a car would be advantageous for exploring the area. The dining experience served a satisfying and reasonably priced breakfast, although some improvements could enhance the options.
